Summary:
Neurological disease and injury are often accompanied by autonomic disturbances. The remaining motor and sensory function in spinal cord injured has hitherherto been the basis for the classification of the injury. International standards to document remaining autonomic function after spinal cord injury are now published and includes evaluation cardiovascular, respiratory, sudomotor and thermoregulatory function, bladder, bowel and sexual function. This way to document autonomic dysfunction might be of value in other neurological conditions as well.
