Summary:
This review highlights medical issues pertinent to the management and care of patients with spinal cord injury following the acute stage. The pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and follow up of comorbid conditions as well as complications arising from injury to the spinal cord are discussed. These include pressure ulcers, spasticity, pain, autonomic dysreflexia, musculoskeletal comorbidities, genitourinary and cardiopulmonary complications.
