Summary:
In all doctor-patient encounters a psychotherapeutic attitude need to be part of the doctor’s agenda as patients’ symptom-presentations usually include some anxiety and concern. In primary care the need for a generalist competence is important and basic psychotherapeutic skills are essential to acquire.
The paper describes basics of a psychotherapeutic approach and depicts characteristics of the most common used “everyday-psychotherapy”, ego-strengthening psychotherapy. Basic features of cognitive psychotherapy are also outlined. The need for primary care personnel to take part in some sort of psychotherapeutic training is stressed.
